What is Gymtel?

I've been training for years and I've joined a lot of gyms. Every single time, the process was the same. Google "gyms near me," look at a few star ratings, maybe check if there's a website with any actual information on it. Most of the time there isn't.
You end up calling the gym, or worse, showing up for a "free tour" where someone follows you around trying to sign you up before you've even seen the squat rack. You don't know what equipment they have. You don't know what a membership actually costs. You don't know if the place is packed at 6 PM or dead.
That's the problem I wanted to solve.
What Gymtel is
Gymtel is a gym directory that shows you the stuff that actually matters. Equipment lists, amenities, real pricing, hours, photos, and reviews from people who train. The kind of information you'd want before committing to a membership.
It's not a social network. It's not a workout tracker. It's a tool for making a decision: which gym should I go to?
It's just me
Gymtel is a one-person project. I'm Cody. I design it, build it, and run it. There's no team, no investors, no sales department. Just a developer who got tired of the same problem every time he moved to a new city or wanted to try a different gym.
That means things move at a certain pace. But it also means every feature exists because it solves a real problem, not because a product manager needed to hit a quarterly OKR.
What I'm focused on
Right now the priority is coverage. More gyms, more cities, more detail on each listing. If your gym isn't on Gymtel yet, you can submit it and I'll add it.
Beyond that, I'm working on:
- Better search. Filtering by equipment, training style, price range, and amenities so you can find exactly what you need.
- Gym owner tools. Letting owners claim their listing and keep their info accurate. They know their gym better than anyone.
- Honest reviews. A review system focused on the things lifters actually care about: equipment quality, crowding, cleanliness, atmosphere.
Why I'm writing this
Mostly transparency. When you use Gymtel, I want you to know what it is and who's behind it. It's not a faceless corporation. It's one person trying to build something useful.
If you have feedback, feature ideas, or just want to say what's up, hit the support page. I read everything.
